Twenty-five color photos, highlighted with photoluminescent ink, of fireflies, fish and other sea creatures, bacteria, and funguses that glow in the dark. So does the book—after each picture is exposed to light for several minutes. There are a few comments on each organism and a brief discussion of bioluminescence; the photos are quite striking. Still, it all adds up to more of a curiosity than a genuine science book. (Nonfiction. 7-11)
