OLD IRON GLOVE by Joe Archibald

OLD IRON GLOVE

By

Publisher: Macrae-Smith

Jim Bruckner is an old timer who has been clowning his way through baseball like one of the early members of Dizzy Dean's Gas House Gang; he's also aggressive and can turn a rhubarb into a rumble; and he has some boulder-sized shoulder-chips- he hates all those who come up through the Little and Ivy Leagues. But he doesn't produce and he is sent back to the minors where he still plays to the crowd, uses his muscular lip, but finally learns when he gets badly ribbed. A youngster who has had polio teaches him another lesson, and a pair of glasses really straightens him out at the plate -- he can hit. Another hardbitten story of professional ball by an author who belts them out with realistic competence.
