This latest book by the author of Touchdown Glory and Rebel Halfback has plenty of football and manly emotion. Ray Sage, expert senior right tackle on the Champlain eleven, had technique, a sportswriter had written, but no inspirational fire. Ray, an orphan who had worked hard for all he had won in life, scoffed at college spirit, believed in operating as a highly efficient machine, and could not understand the disgust of Pop Blackner, the coach, with his attitude. A miss on the All-Stars, a direful prediction come true, and a dismal record on a professional team, and Ray sees the light. Ray returns to the old school after a stunning, inspired performance and becomes assistant coach at Champlain. Thrilling descriptions of games for those who know and love their football.
