I rather doubt the juvenile appeal of this story of a Swiss lad in China, with a subtly humorous handling of the boy's relations with his parents. There is subsequent rescue to offset certain minor discrepancies. Fafan displays both ingenuity and courage in the rescue and the conclusion is satisfactory.
