The world's heavyweight boxing champion tells his story in a simple modest fashion. His rise from Alabama farm boy to probably the greatest fighter of all time is an interesting chapter in many respects and to many kinds of people. Prize fight fans will no doubt get quite a kick out of his description of all of his bouts, from his first amateur fight when he was licked down to his recent fight which he won in the first round. Sociologists will be pleased and proud of Joe Louis' story of his rise from a poor Negro background, with little schooling, to one of America's outstanding citizens largely through sheer character and sterling sincerity, integrity and generosity. His record in the ring is outstanding; his service in the army earned him the Legion of Merit. Tribute to his mother and Jack Blackburn, his famous trainer stand out. The two were responsible for the moral and physical development of this great fighter and good man.
