THE STARS TONIGHT

An interesting and very usefully arranged handbook of the night sky. After introducing some general concepts (zenith, meridian, ecliptic) the book presents month by month patterns of stars. Star maps for each month are matched to photographs (facing north and facing south); important features are presented in closeup. A rather limited glossary concludes. There are a great many guidebooks for amateur astronomers, many more extensive than this one, but for the limited purpose of presenting briefly explained, clear maps of the monthly skies this book does a quite adequate job.
