Pig"" is an abbreviation for ""Patience, Integrity, and Guts"" when you're John Tallon, an L.A.P.D. sergeant who deserts the big-city pressures and uglies for a police-chiefdom in wee Whitewater, Washington. For a while, Chief Tallon's heaviest responsibility is teaching his pokey staff how to make fancy U-turns, but then a mad rapist goes into frequent action--and heroin surfaces at the local college. Add the accidental death of the town gossip--she's been saying that Tallon himself is the Frankenstein-mask rapist--and it's a shopworn but sturdy little item from a cop-conscious (In the Heat of the Night) mass-producer.
