THE NEGRO IN AMERICAN LIFE by John Booker

THE NEGRO IN AMERICAN LIFE

By

Publisher: Mossner

This is a picture book -- with a revealing assortment ofsalient facts, organized along lines of the Negro in science, in literature, in the arts, in education, in the armedservices, in industry and so on. Frequent references to booksdealing with specific subjects, plus specializedbibliographies makes this a reference book, as well as achallenge to immediate consideration. In the main, thereproductions are not as effective as one could wish, but thefacts brought out -- both by pictures and captions -- make itthoroughly worthwhile. It is encouraging to have a book whichshows the Negro's achievements, rather than one thatsentimentalizes over the Negro's hard fate. A positive note--which should make people realize that the argument can havesubstantial support in favor of giving the Negro a betterchance --has long been needed. In this form, it should reach adifferent audience.
