IMMORTAL SERGEANT

Tale of a shattered Libyan patrol, with six left from an original fourteen after an Italian air attack. They must find their way against insuperable odds, and when their leader -- knowing he will retard them, puts himself out of the way, Corporal Spence is upheld only by the spirit of his dead superior. Eventually, when the tiny group organize a successful raid on a German encampment, with the help of a de Gaulle detachment. Spence finds he is ready to cope even with his baffling romance. Good action story, with psychological pattern.
