KIRKUS REVIEW

A youthful appearance for Thomas Brunt of Rescue from the Rose (1976) who back in 1875, when he was twenty-seven, was the local sergeant investigating the disappearance of Amy Harrington, seventeen, who started in service at twelve. Reality catches up with her and some other young girls who do strictly upstairs work at Captain Kingsey's Hall in Piper's Fold where they are too country-fresh to distinguish between love and ardor. A period crime and the pleasantest compromise between the two genres.
