LET'S VISIT JAPAN

Third in John Caldwell's somewhat chauvinistic series (the others dealt with Korea and American Overseas- and like, this one, presented the subjects from a thoroughly ""boost American relations"" point of view), this seems to us the least effective. No doubt the facts are there:- the geography, the history (sometimes oddly slanted), the economy, the religious, the salient data on the way of life. But somehow Japan remains coldly remote, unreal and wholly lacking in color and drama. The end impression is flat and dull and uninspiring. And the style is inclined to be condescending, for children at this age level.
