Another in the ""American Epoch Series"" as described in the report above, this volume too gives tremendously valuable insights and experiences with the accomplishments which first settled this country. From William Bradford's accounts of landing at Cape Cod in 1620 through the Pilgrim-Puritan settling of New England, to the development of another culture in the warmer climes of the South, it is a panorama of the American mind in the making. Here are the Winthrops' letters, Cotton Mathers' admonitions and exhortations, Ben Franklin's advice and jokes, plus the words and thoughts of Roger Williams, Jonathan Edwards, the stories of Indian capture or cruel witchhunts, the sense of politics and a nation in the making. Although the books of this new series are heavy in the hand, they are filled with such marvelous selections that no American interested in his country's past will be able to resist them. Especially good for serious minds.
