This is one of John Christopher's disaster-prone projections of an all too possible future when, in England, mob rule by the yobs (gangs) governs after a period of economic crisis and collapse. Prejudicial, to a degree, since the worst aspects of folk (rock) culture are on display. The story here begins with the really disgusting vandalism of Rod and Hilda Gawfrey's home to its invasion when the so-called youngsters move in and terrorize everyone — except Hilda. On the side there's Rod's sister's slow-blooming romance with a policeman, and at the end, the pendulum swings back, back. Meantime it has ticked off an adventure story with a more than considerable amount of grim excitement.
