KIRKUS REVIEW

This yarn of the sea about an old salt and a fledgling seaman who set sail on the dangerous oceans of the early 19th century, is filled with wildly fantastic events. Young Jack Darby can do no wrong, and towers over his shipmates like some sort of a seabound superman. Jack and his old pal, Ned Bolt, skip from near bottom to top, as one colorful success follows another. Despite abundant unrealistic situations, the book offers large amounts of detail about ship life, which boys may go for.
