THE ISLAND OF DRAGONS by John Clagett

THE ISLAND OF DRAGONS

By

Pub Date: June 1st, 1967
Publisher: Putnam

The year is 1926 and Douglas Burden has to go to Komodo to prove the existence of the fabled dragons the giant lizards who live only on this one small island in the (theu) Dutch East Indies ""Would his young wife be willing... She would! In fact, she really wanted to go!"" So we journey with Babs and Douglas across the Pacific, then to beleaguered Peking, at last (p. 38) to Komodo itself, where the party fulfills its purpose; killing (for museum exhibition) and capturing (for zoo protection) several specimens of the ancient creature. How they went about it has some interest but the adventures of the ""spare-looking youngster...burned brown by outdoor life"" (Douglas) and his blue-eyed wife, ""a city girl brought up with every luxury,"" read like fulsome (""this was a real paradise"") fiction.
