AUTOBIOGRAPHY

A problematical market -- watch your step. Not for everyone who follows the literary career of John Cowper Powys with enthusiasm for his Glastonbury Romance and his Philosophy of Solitude. A bald revelation of a writer, which fits into the category of erotica rather than autobiography. He professes to create a living portrait of himself, as he was, as he is:- for thirty years a lecturer of note, an intelligent eccentric, at times seeming more insane than sane, supremely a sadist whose eroticism overflows the account of his achievements. He insists on making his own insane obsessions realistic to his readers. A life story told in sensations ending in sexual elation. Hysterically written in effect, but actually bitingly clear. A limited market.
