HIT AND RUN

The first for this publisher (quondam Harper) is one of the best in the series featuring the Yard's Roger West, as the hit and run killing of a housekeeper, some anonymous letters to a young lawyer, and the assault on a well-liked woman, a Justice of the Peace, finally find their common denominator in an accidental death some years ago. And what at first suggests a delayed revenge reflex- proves to have a more venal motivation... Once again, the efficiency doesn't detract from the excitement and keeps this tense as well as trim.
