KIRKUS REVIEW

While a residual survivor is fighting the crooked shadows long after the sundown of WW II, Colonel Lovett -- whom everyone justifiably hates -- proves to be just about indestructible even if his Cranach is stolen, his business threatened by his former wife and associates, and two men are killed -- one, his brother, in his stead. Crowe tells a tight story of infighting, betrayal and reprisals; you may not like anyone around, but in their hard-shelled fashion they command your interest.
