KIRKUS REVIEW

Short bios of 256 title-holders in the eight major divisions of professional boxing with 176 photos. The pantheon includes John L. Sullivan, Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Gene Tunney, Gentleman Jim Corbett, Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson, Floyd Patterson and The Greatest, Muhammad Ali (who is ranked only tenth here in a survey of the all-time champs). The writing ain't so hot, but it's a helluva lotta fun.
