VLAMINCK; WALDO PEIRCE

By

Publisher: Harper -- Hyperion Press

Two volumes to add to the expanding shelf of art books, with fine reproductions, at reasonable prices. The text of the Vlaminck book is considerably concerned with the aesthetics of the French movement, and Vlaminck's place in that school. In the interpretation of the man and his work, the personal note is consistently struck. Even in reproduction of his landscapes and his ""still life"" one gets the characteristic sense of motion, implicit in his technique. Extensive bibliography. Full index of illustrations and plates...The text on Waldo Peirce is primarily biographical, with an almost overwhelming sense of the man in relation to his family, his friends and his art; his contradiction of his New England background, and his interpretation of it. More modern in point of time, there has been little written about him, so this should be a useful as well as a beautiful addition.
