HISTORIC MIDWEST HOUSES

By

Publisher: Univ. of Minn.

Artistically speaking, these houses represent largely the most unprep phases of America's checkered architectural pattern. There are a few that New England derivatives; some good examples of classic revival; some Victorian mities, a few showing traces of southern plantation influence, French, Spanish and farmhouses, pioneer cabins; ""cornfield Gothic""; and so on. But interest in this lies, in the pattern of America moving west; in the historic incidents and historic associated with these houses. Ohio, Indiana, Illinoi Missouri, Michigan, concin Nebraska, Kansas, the Dakotas -- what a panor of America they present known in history, in politics, in literature, in the arts, in science, in social in industrial development- here through the homes in which they lives introduced to those who contributed to the great midwest. Largely regional its a big slice of America.
