The first sixteen verses of the old poem first published in 1823, to which John Ruskin added four verses in 1883, are here enlivened by perfect, warm and humorous illustrations. To echo Ruskin's words, it may still be said that the book--specially with these pictures-- is perfect for the Christmas fireside because it tells of nothing sad or ugly. Mr. Broomfield has done an exceptional, beautifully designed and executed piece of work, and this--his first book-- should bring him reserved recognition soon; congratulations to a talented newcomer.
