THE RETURN TO REASON

By

Publisher: Regnery

Members of The Association for Realistic Philosophy present essays that expound their platform- a departure from the schismatic principles of modern day positivists, skeptics, pragmatists and naturalists, and a re-emphasis of a philosophy based on empirical evidence leading to a realistic ontology based on Aristotelian natural law. Mr. Wild teaches at Harvard, and contributes a piece on phenomenology or ""the disciplined attempt to describe and analyze the immediate data of awareness"", and metaphysics. Other essayists include professors from universities across the country- Oliver Martin, Jesse de Boer, Manley Thompson among them- and Charles Malik, Minister of Lebanon and chairman of the United Nations Human Rights Commission. Mr. Malik writes of the place such a philosophy has as the basis of ""the one pre-eminently philosophical act of the U. N.""- the Human Rights Declaration. His essay is strong and starts with Aristotle's statement that the nature of man is to know the truth. Continuing, he says that even Whitehead cannot quite overcome Aristotle and that each of the principles in the Declaration is workably in tune with natural law and its properties of knowledge and self determination. Stimulating.
