KIRKUS REVIEW

A perky folktale from the Middle East (via an Armenian grandmother in Detroit) with undistinguished cartoon-like illustrations. Ahmed the tailor journeys to Mecca and returns to find that the kadi (local judge) denies him money entrusted before the pilgrimage. A friendly servant girl and her mistress outwit the reluctant justice: the mistress asks the kadi a similar favor and arranges for Ahmed to arrive with his request during her bargaining. The kadi pays up, the woman begs off, and everybody dances for joy, including the kadi who marvels at so clever a woman.
