SUPERCARS by John Gabriel Navarra

Though the full page glamor photos--not to mention the title--indicate some ambivalence, Navarra's text emphasizes how Nader turned public attention from style to safety, how conservatonists oppose fuel wasting power cars and small ones are selling at record rates, and how auto makers are responding to a demand for sanity. The rest is a sales-brochure survey of features, models, and variously radical alternatives designed to meet the need for safer, less polluting cars. A fast lap for impatient readers; others will find Stambler's Automobile Engines of Today and Tomorrow (KR, 1972) incomparably more substantial.
