The system of government developed in colonial New England survives in a typically New England institution, the Town Meeting. This is not a book designed to show other parts of the country how to follow in New England's footsteps, but to give a picture of what happens, and why it is so deeply rooted in New England tradition. The most interesting part of the book is the illustrative side, -- photographs of successive facets of the day itself, the people who take part and their share in the proceedings. An interesting record -- but limited in sales appeal.
