INSIDE LATIN AMERICA

This might be tritely termed the book on Latin America to end all books on Latin America. For the general reader, it would -- or could -- be true, as Gunther's super reporting on the 20 republics, plus Porto Rico and the Canal Zone, follows the smooth, compact formula of Inside Europe. In each country he has cut through to the fundamental problems, and Callup-polled the people into suggesting their own remedies. His talent for extracting pertinent facts from key men, then organizing them into a hard-hitting summary, easy for the uninitiated to understand, makes international politics excitingly readable. His thoughtful consideration of Mexico produced a brilliant analysis, beyond the mere political and economic survey. The entire book is shrewd, consistently interesting and never backneyed. It has less of history, and more of sincere good neighbor enthusiasm than the rest of the ""inside"" series. The roving reporter has rung the bell again. Here's a book that will sell itself.
