Perhaps Mr. Gunther s best book, this again astounds us with his immense capacity to absorb vast areas of information and his ability to organize this material into integrated form. In exploring Africa's checkered history, the roles played by foreign powers, the rebellions, there is the vitality of turbulent life in a land that is only newly important to the stream of world history. In assessing the future, Mr. Gunther analyzes the regions where federation has worked, where racism is a menace, and where leftist tendencies have felt themselves. The result is an immensely readable book that should provide anyone interested with a better than adequate groundwork.
