KIRKUS REVIEW

The initial book of a proposed series called Meet the World, consists of extracts from his earlier adult book, Inside Africa. Gunther focusses on Tunisia, Morocco, Libya and Algeria. He differentiates between the white Barbara, the French ""colons"", holding the upper hand, the Tunisians, closest to the West in attitudes and the Arabs, who adapt to change and circumstances more easily than the Berbers. He stresses the need for education, the primitive status of women, underscores the great cities: Fez, Algiers--boasting of everything French, Casablanca, Rabat, and Tangiers, the vital vortex of wireless transmission to Europe and Africa.
