TIMOTHY BAINES

Timonthy Baines is a humpbacked shoeshine boy who becomes a ""gentleman's gentleman"" to young intern Dorch McIntyre during the pre-Civil War days. Dorch is a totally dedicated physician, a half breed Indian who is forced to kill his childhood Indian sweetheart during a preposterous raid and who is subsequently the cause of tribal antagonisms for the greater part of his life. In the meantime he has an affair with the fiercely independent, Eastern educated Texan, Denna Cart. Denna will eventually team up with Belle Starr to terrorize the neighborhood in vengeance after Dorch's death and in the process will almost destroy their son's life. If the plot seems a trifle far fetched, how about Belle Starr crooning ""We'll make some candy. I have a nice recipe for sugar candy."" A half-baked notion indeed!
