CHARLES C. RICH

The Mormon story is an interesting facet of American background and this biography of one of the leading Mormons holds much of fascination both in substance and telling. A follower of Joseph Smith, he lived in various parts of the early settlements, and after Smith's death, followed Brigham Young to Salt Lake City. From there he travelled to all points of the compass, doing missionary work and establishing new contacts and colonies, while at home he was high in the inner councils. He spent some time in England, where the story recalls the background of Susan Ertz' The Proselyte. He cherished faith in the principle of polygamy, had six wives and fifty children, and succeeded in maintaining an harmonious household. Public library market, primarily.
