VARIETIES OF PROTESTANTISM

What a blessing to find a book like this that doesn't assume that there is a Protestant Church, but rather is sensitive to the many types of Protestant approach to Truth. Hence the book is not denominational at all, but would be just as useful for Christians raised in the Catholic tradition, -- Roman, Anglican or Orthodox -- in their endeavor to understand Protestants, as it would be to the several varieties of Protestants in understanding themselves. There is real light here for the student of interchurch relationships and especially their fruit in the ecumenical movement. The vocabulary and treatment make this of special interest to the professional Christian leader, though a well trained layman would enjoy it too. We are used to many denominations, but Mr. Cobb shows how nine fundamental, different but often complementary Protestant approaches to the human situation and its relationship to God, can be readily distinguished. We are not generally prepared for so many ""families"" of Protestant thought.
