HAZEL WAS AN ONLY PET

Two doves bring peace-of-mind to a jealous dog. In page after page of brisk drawings and static text, Hazel is a pampered pet who's also typical, not only resenting the tropical fish and the caged doves but also curling in her closet and trying to catch mosquitoes. One day when the doves get out they brave her barks, fly on her back, and generally ingratiate themselves; Hazel, who ""has never had an animal friend before,"" thinks ""it's much easier to be friends than to be jealous,"" and she extends a friendly paw to the fish. After Ken-L-Ration realism, a flight of fancy, the whole tenuous except for the illustrations.
