KIRKUS REVIEW

Good adventure yard and a different sort of story of a westward trek. Robert Whipple runs away from home in New Hampshire, heading west, and seizing upon any and every means that offers, stowaway on wagon, coach, canal boat; oar boy on a flatboat, mule rider in a caravan, meeting friends and enemies, and acquiring new responsibilities. But he gets there -- and finds his gold, in moderate degree.
