PLAYING PRO FOOTBALL TO WIN

With that name on the cover and the ambiguous title, every football fan will pick this up but some will be disappointed if they expect a how-to. Unitas serves up a coltish assortment of general advice, specific replays (mostly from the sixties), reminiscences and first person comments, and the impression is of a pileup with the ball lost somewhere underneath. The most recent record breakers figure frequently but there is a final tribute to Thorpe, Grange, Nevers and Nagurski. There are also recurrent references to the good money in today's good sportsmanship. Sometimes the ""me"" theme could be sidelined but it's not obnoxious and his appeal extends beyond Baltimore.
