THE AFFIRMATION OF IMMORTALITY

The well known pastor of the Community Church of New York, a recognized in liberal religious circles, here gives us a ringing affirmation of his faith tality. His whole argument, cogently built up as always, may be summaried in tation: ""If this universe is purely materialistic in character, and operated mechanistic laws, then is it as foolish to believe in immortality as to worship if this universe is spirit, then do all the postulates of the spirit become true. Immortality is then as inevitable as the destiny of being, as God is its source."" Orthodox Christians will not be entirely satisfied with this book, that would be because of what Dr. Holmes does not say, rather than what he what he does have to say few believing Christians and Jews would quarrel; should welcome this well phrased apologia for an important article of their Religious Book Club Selection.
