INTO THE VALLEY

A skirmish of the Marines -- this is sub-titled, and it one of those miniature pictures that I find give a more vivid picture of the ways of today's war than in the larger coverage. Here is an insignificant incident, presented with simplicity, strength and great feeling -- a defeat, and not victory, but it gives one a sense of sharing, as one experiences vividly the silent march along jungle trails, the impasse when they are trapped, growing panic, and withdrawal.
