KIRKUS REVIEW

An exhaustive history of the Standard-bred horse and harness racing, this is a sizeable piece of work, in popular presentation, recording in one volume the principal body of facts about this sport and its participants. With an historical introduction to horses of the ancient world, Hervey, an authority, goes on to present the American pacer, the phenomenal progenitor Peter the Great, the many famous horses and breeders to follow, the formulation of trotting horse standards, the theories of breeding and bloodlines, etc. The appendix lists the tabulated pedigrees, and there will be photograph illustrations. Definitive, for the fancier as well as follower of the sport.
