Beginning readers get a lively look at the ""creative process"" in two entries in the ""Fix-it Family"" series. Inventors Willa and Orville Wright run a repair shop with their children Alexander, Graham, and Belle, also inventors. In Great Leaf, the older boys vie in creativity with their raking machines but are left in the dust by their little sister; in Day-Off, Graham provides a break for his busy family by steering a pile of snow right into the workshop. Text and pictures don't always harmonize here, and the point of each plot is a bit dull; still, the language is simple and fairly fluid; the inventions are fun; and the illustrations inject the story with a pleasing amount of humor.
