THEORY AND TECHNIQUE OF PLAYWRITING by John Howard Lawson

THEORY AND TECHNIQUE OF PLAYWRITING

By

Pub Date: Feb. 14th, 1936
Publisher: Putnam-Minton Balch

A playwright himself, and a student of his subject, John Lawson is admirably equipped to write this serious dissertation on the subject. It is handled from the philosophical viewpoint, based on the historical. He goes back to Aristotle, runs quickly down through the centuries, with some stress on the 18th and 19th century; then in Ibsen finds the forerunner of the modern theatre, the philosophical precepts of which have their roots in past centuries. He analyzes the dynamics of construction. A book for the serious student of the drama, not for the casual theatregear; for college libraries, play-writing courses, etc.
