He goes on to discuss the art or craft of acting and directing, and particular roles he has experienced as either actor or director or both. He speaks of Richard the Second, The School for Scandal, The Importance of Being Earnest; Benedick, Leontes, Cassius, Hamlet; Congreve, Sheridan, Goldsmith. He performed in Chekhov under Komisarjevsky and St. Denis, was Lear for Granville-Barker -- and his script notes for the part and Granville-Barker's correspondence are included as appendices.
