SHAPES

Make a place for Shapes on the preschool bookshelf next to Reiss' Colors and Numbers; this one is as strikingly bold and basic as its predecessors, with pages of squares (checkerboard, signal flags, an Albers-like square within squares), triangles (sails, tents, arrowheads), circles, rectangles and ovals that are not only a pleasure to behold but also an introduction to three dimensional forms as squares make cubes, triangles pyramids and circles spheres. A jaunty fox and a mole display and cavort on the various shapes but they are really incidental to the smartly designed spectacle.
