PAPER CHASE

Whodunit-hardboiled school. The briefest of romances in Hongkong, followed by an impetuous marriage, dumps American Pat Ames, a lumberman in the Philippines, into a pretty kettle of fracases. His bride is murdered (it doesn't seem to bother hardboiled Pat)-- and a nightclub in Manila becomes a focus for some Mysterious Rotten Business that gets everybody doped, beaten up or just plain released from life. It turns out to be a hell-bent-for power gang of money black marketeers. innocent reviewer fingered the villain halfway through. Low grade.
