uen a young boy riding through the bush country of Australia encounters in ugly giant (who has been rejected by society) a strange friendship develops. llagers attempt to destroy the eight-foot tall hermit, while David tries to protect him. After a bloody battle in which the giant bangs heads together, David's father hires the friendly giant, who leaves the bush behind him when he takes up residence on the Morgan farm. An interesting story, but the nature of the oversized animal is not perfectly clear; is he an oversized human or a kindred member of fantasy's stock of giants?
