Almost independent of the books which it wrote is the Church of Christ with its continuous existence affirming both the fact of the reality of Our Lord, and by its life, memory and practices, the nature of His being and mission. God's purpose for the whole cosmos will in the end be fulfilled as the Church realizes under God's creative hand its true nature and amplitude. Dr. Knox, of Union Theological Seminary, sets forth this thesis in lucid, compact prose which will delight theologians and students alike, and which can even be understood by well trained laymen. In a day when critical study of the Biblical records seems, at times, to chip away at the grounds for faith, it is well to be reminded, so vividly, that the Church is the unassailable ground for knowing the reality of Christ. is this to be understood as a backward glance through history; rather, the living Body of Christ is where Our Lord is met in current experience, and, within that Body meaning of the future can be found. All clergymen will need this book, many laymen will read it with profit, and its impact will be felt on college and seminary campuses.
