St. Paul has been an inexhaustible source for theologians and preachers since his manuscripts were first available. John Knox's new book, Life in Christ Jesus, is another one of the many attempts to throw new light on old familiar passages in Romans. Although a bit tedious at times, it is essentially readable and a worthwhile addition to any man's library on the New Testament. Particularly well done is the chapter on ""The Life of the Spirit"". Paul refers to the Spirit over 100 times in his letters and Knox writes that, ""The Spirit is God's own presence, His very being surrounding us and pervading us, His own love encompassing us, and wanting to possess us entirely."" Another section, ""Waiting, but in Hope"" is unusually poignant. ""Here if anywhere, Paul is speaking a language we in our generation can understand""--so says John Knox, who teaches at the Union Theological Seminary in New York.
