THE HOME YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED AT A PRICE YOU CAN AFFORD

By

Publisher: Prentice-Hall

In 1961 this author advised with Make The Most of Your Income; this year his concern is for building your own home for what you are able to pay, with the big saving at the building level through packaged dwellings. Mass production and new methods of construction make possible a shell (rough floors, wall, roof) that can be put up on week-ends, during a vacation, by the owner himself. Prefab materials, instruction sheets, varieties of plans to choose from (that permit flexibility in adjusting one design to another), are part of his guidance; he goes on to financing and insurance, where to buy your lot, how to build in some dream ideas along with practical planning, savings in various areas (water, disposal, heat, wiring, garage, telephone, etc.); he includes material on interior and exterior materials. There is an outline of the 30 steps in building, of the jobs you can do (with average intelligence, commonsense, skill, patience -- and no extensive training) and those on which contractors are a saving (ways in dealing with these experts is not omitted). There is appendix matter on building terminology, where to get further information, and an estimating guide and cost control record. Certainly the very book for the home-building home owner.
