Believing that ""it is pleasing to see boys make a career in the profession of arms,"" the author has compiled anecdotes of youthful bravery under fire. Prom ancient Sparta to the Korean conflict, the fighting of boys under eighteen is described with a maximum of military action and a minimum of characterization: the page from the Middle Ages, the British butcher's boy during World. War I, and the daring grenade-thrower of Korea do not survive the narration as individuals. A fragmentary collection of ""good examples,"" some moving, some dull.
