THE MIGHTY ATOM

Mr. Lewellen has made and maintained a record of substantial non-fiction for both the 8-11 and 12-16 groups. His explanation of atomic action here should be fine preparation for beginning readers with scientific bents. Carefully, a general first chapter explains how scientists think everything is made up of atoms and sets the stage for a look at the parts, how they are held together and how they combine to make molecules of infinite variety. Then the force so recently unloosed, the power in atomic nuciel, is shown in terms of discovery and its uses for the future.
