KIRKUS REVIEW

Six essays on literary subjects:- the King James version and its importance as an influence in formulating taste; Pilgrim's Progress, the life of Bunyan in so far as it effects his work; Chaucer, life and works; Hardy and his feeling for the earth -- and Meredith in contrast; Amy Lowell, liberal quotations from her works, her vocabulary; and Meredith again. Scholarly -- a bit too much so, for it seems pedantic and lacking in fire. Definitely for the student and intellectual.
